For those that are fans of the FIFA franchise, EA has once again created a great game with FIFA World Cup 2014. This game follows teams from around the world as they fight to enter into the World Cup tournament in Brazil and finally compete to represent their own country. For those that are skeptical of another FIFA, they will be glad to hear that there are a number of exciting new features and many of the most blatant bugs from the past have been updated and fixed. Here is a closer look at EA Sports’ newest FIFA title and how it stacks up to other releases in this franchise.

Anyone that has played any of the most recent titles in the FIFA lineup of games is going to feel right at home when it comes to overall gameplay pre-match, on the pitch, and post-match. While EA has been known to test out various new mechanics such as advanced player movement options with their newest titles, that is not the case with World Cup 2014. The controllers will be almost identical as players compete with one of over 200 teams that are attempting to enter the World Cup and then push through way through the brackets.

Matches can be setup in single-player mode or players can jump into stiff competition with friends or strangers from around the world. One of the main benefits is the ability to quickly jump in and out of each match as a spectator or part of the coaching structure to mix-and-match strategy and direct playing. Players will feel as if they not only have direct control over the formation of their team, but also the momentum of every single play.

The campaign throughout the tournament is highly rewarding as various challenges are unlocked and the player-controlled character can eventually rise through the ranks and become the captain of their own team. Throughout each match, players must be careful to ensure that injured players receive proper rest and penalty cards are kept to a minimum. Just as with the World Cup, each player can receive penalties and suspensions that will last through the tournament, and this helps to build suspense as well as increasing the difficulty of any long-term strategeies strategy.

Overall, FIFA World Cup 2014 is a solid addition to the franchise with enough new additions and solid gameplay options to keep fans entertained. While EA Sports did not take any overt risks with this release, simply adding tried-and-true features to an exciting new worldwide tournament is enough to make this a great purchase.
